Pay off credit card debt

After you pay off credit card debt

Credit card debt is a very big problem that is being faced by a lot of people who have been irresponsible and undisciplined in the use of their credit card. Though some might have landed up with credit card debt due to some unfortunate event/emergency in their life, most people carry a credit card debt due to their own wrong doings (i.e. wrong usage of their credit card debt). There are a lot of ways to pay off credit card debt and a lot of people do achieve this feat (i.e. are able to pay off credit card debt). Surely, to be able to pay off credit card debt is really a great achievement in itself for not everyone is able to pay off credit card debt. It takes a lot of discipline, restraint, planning and perseverance to finally pay off credit card debt. However, there is more to paying off credit card debt then just being able to pay off credit card debt.

Here we are talking about the life after you pay off credit card debt successfully. As mentioned before, of all the people that try to pay off credit card debt not everyone is able to pay off credit card debt i.e. there are some failures too. However, some people fail after they have succeeded in paying off credit card debt. These are those people who let themselves loose and go on a spending spree as soon as they pay off credit card debt. Soon, these people again land up with a credit card debt and are again trying to pay off credit card debt. So, it’s not enough to just pay off credit card debt, it’s equally important to maintain a debt-free status even after you pay off credit card debt; only then can you enjoy a stress-free life in the world of credit cards. So learn your lessons well and do not let yourself loose on the path to another credit card debt. Most of the rules that you followed when you were trying to pay off credit card debt, will also hold good after you have paid off your credit card debt. Here is a quick synopsis of things that you should take care of even after you pay off credit card debt:
1)    Do not overspend. Yielding to the sale offers for something that you don’t really need, is a big mistake that leads to overspending
2)    Always remain within 70% of your credit limit.
3)    Make credit card bill payments in time and in full.
4)    Don’t hold more than 2 credit card accounts (two are enough for anyone)

These are just very basic things; you can add more based on your own experience and knowledge.

Acquiring a Personal Loan in the face of Bad Credit

Are you thinking of obtaining a personal loan but you feel that you are not qualified because of your credit history? DO not lose hope, there is still a way for you to get that loan. If you want to obtain a personal loan despite having bad credit, then it may benefit you to read the following tips.

Find a lender

Looking for a lender that provides bad credit personal loans will not be a problem for you since bad credit personal loans have evolved and become competitive. Eventhough there is an improvement on this kind of loans, you will still be paying more compared to someone with a better credit standing since you are considered to be high-risk by the lenders.

Check your ability to pay

Before applying for the loan, you must be sure that you will be able to meet the monthly payments. It is important that you are able to pay regularly to improve your credit record. Make sure that you make the best out of the loan and not make your current status become worse than when you started. It is a good idea for you to make a list of all your expenses like your food stubs, rent, transportation expenses, food, clothing, utilities so that you can prevent yourself from over extension.

Consult with the credit bureaus

When obtaining a loan and you have bad credit, you must be sure that your loan will be recorded by the major credit bureaus since this is an opportunitity for you to improve your credit standing. YOu can also find out your credit score from them, knowing your credit score will help you during negotiation with a potential lender. Your credit score is a big factor that will determine whether the lending company will give you the money or not.

Determine how much you must borrow

Do some projections to determine how much you will borrow using a personal loan. Keep in mind that personal loans have higher interest rates but have shorter payment periods. Because of this setup, you can actually save some money because eventhough personal loans carry much higher interest rates when compared with other loans, the loan can be paid in just a few years unlike other loans that can stretch from 10 to 20 years up.

Personal loan versus credit card

The thing to take into account will be the interest rates for both the personal loan as well as that of the credit card. Most of the time, personal loans have lower interest rates compared to credit cards. Some lending companies do not like giving out personal loans since their is little profit in it but there are still a good number of companies that provide personal loans.
Compare and analyze

It is important that you do not limit yourself to just a few companies. Look around and try to get the best deal that they can offer. List down each lender's rates and deals and get the best one. Do your homework and choosing where to get that persona loan will be much easier.

Always remember to be responsible for all your obligations to avoid from getting ruined or getting dependent from banks that provide you with loans. You have the power to decide where you want your life to go, so you better make the best decision.

An Overview of Student Loan Debt Consolidation

A student loan debt consolidation loan allows you to combine your federal student loans into a single loan with one monthly payment. The repayments of a student loan debt consolidation loan can be significantly lower than the payment required under the standard 10-year repayment option. Under the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program, banks, secondary markets, credit unions, and other lenders provide the student loan debt consolidation loan. Under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program, the federal government provides the student loan debt consolidation loan.

Most federal education loans are eligible for inclusion in a student loan debt consolidation loan, including subsidized and unsubsidized Direct and FFEL Stafford Loans, SLS, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Nursing Loans, and Health Education Assistance Loans. However, private education loans are not eligible for inclusion in a student loan debt consolidation loan.

To find out which loans can be included in a student loan debt consolidation loan contact the Direct Loan Origination Center's Consolidation Department if you’re applying for a direct student loan debt consolidation loan. Contact a participating FFEL lender if you’re applying for a FFEL student loan debt consolidation loan.

It is worth noting that you are still eligible for a student loan debt consolidation loan after you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time enrollment. You can also get a student loan debt consolidation loan while you're in school. You must, however, be attending at least half time and have at least one Direct Loan or FFEL in an ‘in-school period’ which generally means that you have been continuously enrolled at least half time since the loan was disbursed. There are a number of conditions that need to be met for you to qualify for a student loan debt consolidation loan, especially if you are delinquent or in default and your loan holder will be able to give you all the necessary information.

If the same holder holds all the FFEL loans you want to consolidate, you must obtain the student loan debt consolidation loan from that holder, unless you haven't been able to get a loan with income-sensitive repayment terms that are acceptable to you. To be eligible for a William D. Ford direct student loan debt consolidation loan, you must have either a direct Stafford subsidized or unsubsidized loan that will be included in the student loan debt consolidation loan or have at least one Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program Stafford subsidized or unsubsidized loan.

Some Realities about Non Profit Debt Consolidation Agencies

A recent report found that many non profit debt consolidation agencies have a reputation for charging high fees and giving bad service to the majority of their customers. A large number of non profit debt consolidation agencies offer credit counseling services that give improper advice, have deceptive practices, charge excessive fees and abuse of their non-profit status. The truth is that non profit debt consolidation agencies are a growing business and over nine million people have some contact with a consumer credit counseling agency in one form or another each year.

There are a huge number of aggressive firms masquerading as non profit debt consolidation agencies that give consumers less access to real debt counseling options and push their debt consolidation loans as the best option when it is not always the case. Many state and federal regulators have not yet uncovered the truth behind a lot of the more unscrupulous non profit debt consolidation agencies.

Of course, not all of the non profit debt consolidation agencies are a threat to consumers. Some non profit debt consolidation agencies are above-board and have pioneered consumer-friendly practices, such as flexible hours, electronic payments and easy access by phone and by Internet. However, consumer complaints against non profit debt consolidation agencies have risen sharply. One of the main issues regarding bad non profit debt consolidation agencies is deceptive and misleading practices. Some non profit debt consolidation agencies do not make consumers' payments on time, deceptively claim that fees are voluntary or do not adequately disclose fees to potential clients.

Many non profit debt consolidation agencies have excessive costs. Most non profit debt consolidation agencies charge fees to set up a Debt Management Program and to maintain it on a monthly basis where this was once a relatively cheap process. Some non profit debt consolidation agencies charge as much as a full month's consolidated payment, which is usually hundreds of dollars, simply to establish an account.

Some non profit debt consolidation agencies abuse their non profit status and are increasingly performing like profit-making enterprises. All non profit debt consolidation agencies in the industry have tax-exempt status but some of these agencies work as regular for-profit businesses with aggressive advertising and selling of Debt Management Programs and a range of related services and reap high revenues which enable them to pay their executives salaries that are much higher than average for the non-profit sector.

It is important to look very carefully at any non profit debt consolidation agencies and ask for feedback from friends or relatives if you are considering signing up for one of their programs to make sure that they really are offering you the best service.

Credit card offer

So many credit card offers, what to do?

Just browse through the daily newspaper and you will be overwhelmed by the number of credit card offers advertised. Move around the town and you will find credit card offers being advertised everywhere. Same is the case is with television which seems to host a number of credit card offers too. So, the credit card offers are there everywhere. Why are there so many credit card offers? Well, quite simply because credit card business is a highly profitable business for the credit card suppliers.

In this situation, when there is no dearth of credit card offers, which is the best credit card offer?

There is nothing like a best credit card offer, really. A better question to ask would be – ‘Which credit card offer is the best for me?’ The spending habits of one person are different from that of another person. Their living styles vary and hence their needs vary too. So for deciding on which credit card offer is best for you, you need to evaluate your needs vis-à-vis your lifestyle and your spending habits (and not go just by the recommendation of someone). For example, if you frequently travel by air, a co-branded airline credit card might be more suited to you than the general purpose one. These airline credit cards offer discounts, rebates and other kind of rewards when the credit card is used for making payments (the rewards are even higher when these credit cards are used for paying for the airline tickets or other airline products). Similarly, if you have a favourite retail store where you do a lot of your shopping, it would be beneficial to check if the retailer is a credit card supplier too and if there is a credit card offer that suits you. A lot of big retail chains do offer co-branded credit cards to their customers and these credit cards offer rebates/discounts etc when they are used for making payments at the retail store. As such, you get reward points for making payments at any place but the rewards are higher on the payments made at retail store. On similar lines, we have credit cards for gas stations and grocery stores too, which you can opt for if you have a favourite gas station or a favourite grocery store where you shop a lot.

So, if you look around, you will find a lot of lucrative credit card offers. However, this doesn’t mean that you enrol for all the credit card offers. You need to first evaluate your needs and rank them. Then you need to evaluate what all credit card offers suit your needs. And finally you can make your choice and go for a credit card offer that covers most of your needs and gives maximum benefits.
